Climate mitigation was the first step, and we are now moving forward towards climate adaptation. Attendees will explore real-world case studies, engage in interactive discussions, and gain actionable insights on how financial institutions can integrate climate risk, innovate products, and lead in adaptation finance. This session is brought by representatives from Frankfurt School.

Explore how open banking and embedded finance are reshaping the future of financial services. María Fernández Vidal, Senior Financial Sector Specialist and Data Lead at CGAP, brings a development-focused lens to the conversation, highlighting how open finance can drive inclusion, empower consumers, and unlock innovation through responsible data-sharing frameworks. Dion Bongaerts, Chair of Financial Technology and Data Analytics at Erasmus University, offers a European perspective on how PSD2, AI, and fintechs are transforming banking into a platform-based, data-driven service, highlighting how data collection, storage, and analysis are becoming as important as capital. Together, they will unpack the opportunities and risks open banking brings to the sector, exploring how to build systems that are inclusive, secure, and future-ready.

PEOPLE | Financial Health in Action
A framework for understanding financial health with best practice case studies to illustrate how financial institutions can support their clients in achieving financial health. Using Kenya as an example, we will explore with FSD Kenya why Kenya as a market with high levels of financial inclusion has had to shift its focus to financial health. Together with Accion, we will look at examples from around the world of financial services. Companies that are successfully incorporating financial health in how they support their customers.

PLANET | Making Climate Adaptation Bankable
Through 2 business cases, this breakout will explore adaptation finance for financial institutions through practical solutions and diverse perspectives. Key themes include leading eligibility and reporting frameworks, climate risk management, taxonomy development, portfolio verification and certification, and steps towards intentional adaptation finance for financial institutions.
The session features speakers from the Gates Foundation, YAPU, the Global Center of Adaptation and CRDB Bank.

The Gates Foundation will present these 4 pillars in conversation with FMO, alongside practitioners who have been able to put these pillars into action.

TECH |Beyond the hype. AI adoption in the financial sector.
In this fireside-style conversation with Drew Propson, Head of Technology and Innovation in Financial Services at the World Economic Forum (WEF), we will unpack the findings of the WEF’s 2025 report on AI in financial services, touching on the key aspects to remain relevant in the future: From navigating in-house development versus outsourcing, to attracting the right talent for AI-driven roles, this session will delve into how financial institutions are building transformation pathways. We’ll look at where automation is advancing within financial service providers, what industry frontrunners are doing differently, and how AI is being leveraged to expand bankability and financial inclusion.
